I first came across the term ‘freewriting’ on a creative writing course taught at CityLit in London. Inspired by a single word prompt and within a set time limit, one writes down anything and everything that comes to mind, pen never leaving the page.
There are times I can make neither head nor tail of my scribblings. Random words and crazy ramblings. But there are times it sparks an idea, an idea that can be developed into a short story, novel or as part of a novel-in-progress.

I encourage you to give it a go. It can be quite liberating. I usually set a time limit of twenty minutes a day on this task, but feel free to spend as much or as little time as you are able to and see what you come up with.
